Pirogiv Higher Primary School

On the territory of the village of Pyrohy above the highway T-17-16 there is a unique building Number 1 of the Pyrohiv secondary school, which absorbed the history of all educational institutions not only in the Poltava region, but also the past of the educational process of Ukraine, Germany, France, Poland. As an architectural landmark, it contains valuable information on the historical, local history and cultural nature, is an organic component of the source base on the history of Ukraine, Germany, as a great spacious authentic building that has not undergone significant changes since its creation, has exceptional aesthetic value and belongs to those sights, requiring increased attention and protection, especially since there is an opportunity to integrate it into the active social life of the region as the People’s House and the basis for the introduction of cultural heritage pedagogy in it, and this is the preservation and transfer of the values of the highly organized Cossack community of our region, the cultural heritage of European education to the Future and the new vectors of socio-cultural development.

The glorious history of the landmark absorbed not only the heritage of the cultural processes of Ukraine, but also the educational achievements of Germany, since the first teacher of German and French at the Pirogov City School in the 1910–1912 academic years was the German Alisa Von Zibert, the works of German composers were constantly performed by the school symphony orchestra (data from the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv)

The historical name – Higher Primary School – was built in 1910 by the titanic efforts of the Cossack community of the Pyrohiv parish, at the expense of the community (80%) and with the assistance of the Kremenchuk district and Poltava county council. This was a significant result of the activity of not one generation, but the whole generation of the Pyrohiv community. The rapid socio-economic development of the Poltava region created material opportunities for the construction of this building. The resolution of the Pyrohiv village assembly of August 22, 1910 notes: “Taking into account that we have begun to arrange this building since 1908, for the construction of which we have spent until now … 25,000 rubles, in addition, we served in kind all the duties as for the preparation of wood 121 soots and bricks, lime and others, which only concerned with the need for supplies, in general, during the construction of such a building, we had to work hard, nevertheless, to finish it and so that there was a 4th class City School in it”
