German investor is investing in the renewal of the “Rye Market” on Podil in Kyiv
Acting Director Yevgeny Shevchenko announced this in an interview with the “Focus” publication.
“The German businessman has an impeccable reputation and extensive experience in similar projects in various European countries. In particular, he has several successful projects in London, his team has unique expertise in the transformation of old buildings into modern objects,” Shevchenko emphasized.
It takes money to maintain the market, its style and purpose. “We are talking about large funds that need to be taken either from the people of Kyiv, from the KMDA budget, or at the expense of a private investor.”
“KMDA and KP “Zhytniy Rynok” organized and conducted an open electronic auction procedure for the lease of part of the market building for the purpose of further placement of public catering establishments, provision of services to the population,” says Yevgeny Shevchenko.
As a matter of fact, part of the market was leased to a German investor.
The origin of the concept of the building will not be changed, there will continue to be a market here. But it is being transformed into a modern public space.
“The investment agreement also provides for the repair of the building and adjacent areas. After the auction, we are at the stage of discussing the technical part of the project,” Shevchenko emphasized.
On the second floor of Zhitnyi Market, they plan to create a public space with food courts, a brewery and a children’s corner. The market will remain on the first one. Here you can buy meat products, vegetables, flowers, seeds and other home-made products. “The market is being reshaped, it will be comfortable, safe, and pleasant here, as in similar markets in large European cities. Our goal is not only to preserve the Zhytnyi building, but also to turn it into an attractive tourist attraction.”
The KMDA reported about these in July 2021(that the market will be leased). It was possible to rent Zhytnia only if the traditional food market remained on the first floor.
